Paraíso
The first edition of Paraíso features 24 international galleries and projects dedicated to the promotion of Latin American art, the presentation of eight artists’ exhibitions, a section dedicated to editions & publications, along with a §public programme of academic talks, live performances and workshops — in addition to a VIP area presenting a site specific installation by Carlos Amorales.
Paraíso’s mission is to create new levels of collaboration between Latin American communities and the world.
The aim of Paraíso is to present great contemporary Latin American artists alongside Modern and Postmodern Latin American masters. Each edition will be dedicated to one country; Mexico is the focus of the first edition, with a revisitation of the work of Felipe Ehrenberg, Mexico City (1943–2017) and a special presentation of two video works by Pola Weiss, Mexico City (1947–1990).
Paraíso aims to set the stage for a Tabula Rasa for Latin American art and Latin American affairs in general. Our mission is to create a new level of understanding between Latin American societies and between Latin America, the UK, and the world.
London is the great Art world capital from which the whole world is always connecting in new ways. We believe this is the right place at the right time to connect Latin America to the world. Paraíso’s first edition will be an opportunity to put these ideas into practice by bringing together a new generation of forward-thinking minds as part of a series of talks, walks, workshops, and other activities in collaboration with our partners.
Javier Calderón is the founder of PARAÍSO, as well as director and founder of Somers, previously Chalton Gallery.
